Capsule Geology

The Lunar 12 showing is hosted in rocks of the Lower Jurassic Telkwa Formation, Hazelton Group. A small Eocene stock of the Coast Plutonic Complex intrudes the strata to the immediate southwest of the area. Extensive masses of quartz diorite of the Middle Jurassic Trapper Plutonic Suite intrude to the north, west and south.

In 1987, 9 chip samples were taken from andesite tuff hosted quartz-carbonate veins located on the Lunar 12 claim. The veins are shown to be up to 1 metre wide, discontinuous and variably mineralized with disseminated pyrite, chalcopyrite, malachite and azurite. Galena and sphalerite are absent. The best sample contained 1.74 per cent copper, less than 0.01 per cent lead, 0.01 per cent zinc, 56.9 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 16757).

Refer to New Moon (093E 011) for related geological and work history details of those showings such as the Lunar 12 showing that occur on the New Moon property.
